DDL needs to be update every few months in order to ensure that you have the latest software and bug fixes for Hours of Service rules. (Hours of Service bugs are fixed within a few hours, and a new version is released. You can find what version you are running, by looking at the top tool bar when DDL is open example: DDL 3.4.3.14) Old software can get a driver a big fine and result in a driver being placed out of service for violations. As a result we have added a warning that will appear if the software is not updated. It will appear down to zero days, at which time no data can be enter, until the software is updated, we realize that this can create problems of not have a log. However have a program that has a bug in it, can cost you even more money and out of service violations. We make it simple, update at least every few months (updates are always free), and you will never see the warnings. Don't and you will have a couple weeks of being warned everyday. As always have a paper log book with you, as it can take 12 to 48 hours to reactivate if something goes wrong. For problems see our FAQ sections.
