Q: How does the subscription service will work?

A: On, or after 1 Jan 2006 you request a "NEW" ActivationCode for a  2nd Laptop, or a new desktop,  (1st you must download and install the latest version of DDL 'Full' - 3.3.0.5 or later, we will not activation any older software after 1 Oct 05), As long as you have not exceeded your three (3) 'NEW' Activations. Then we will issue an ActivationCode that will have 366 days remaining. At the end of the period, you will need to pay the $40.00 US annual subscription fee, or the 'Full' version will go back to a 'Lite' version.

Q: How do I tell how many days I have left on my annual subscription service?

A: This can be check by clicking on 'ABOUT DDL' icon on the tool bar. The number of days remaining will be shown. Also this information is now displayed next to  Help icon on the tool bar.

Q: I do not see any information about "Subscriptions" next to the Help icon?

A: This is because you have not been updated to an "Annual Subscription Service" Here are some of the reasons:

    1. You have not requested a "NEW" ActivationCode

    2. You have not requested a reActivationCode.

    3. You are running the 'Lite' version, you will never have an annual subscription service.

Q: My version says Unlocked below the version information, what does this mean?

A: This means you have not started a subscription service, as you have not requested a "NEW" or a ReActivationCode since 1 Jan 2006, You do not need to pay anything until the subscription period begins. All updates are still free, and will not change your code. Please see the FAQ on 'Reasons an InstallationID number will change'. This can be found under Reactivation Policy link.

Q:  Do I have to buy an Annual Subscription Service?

A: Existing DDL customers -- Our policy is and has always been, Existing DDL customers are not required to 'subscribe'.  The only limitation that you 'live under' is the three (3) "NEW" activations before purchase of DDL is required again. Q: What if I decide not to renew my subscription at the end of the period?

A: The 'Full' version will turn off all functions and print modules except for Trips, Manifest and the Classic print module.

Q: I have never had to re-activate my copy of DDL.  What do I need to do for the subscription service?

A: Nothing, your copy of DDL (on this computer only) will never expire!.  Our policy is and has always been, Existing DDL customers are not required to 'subscribe'.  The only limitation that you 'live under' is the three (3) "NEW" activations before purchase of DDL is required again. This also applies to 'Lite' version you receive 3 "NEW" activations, per Full license copy of DDL. A full license copy is $US70, US$95.00 OR US$50.00  The US$25 copy was license for backup only. For more information on "NEW" Activations, Reactivations, or License Policy please visit the web site www.driversdailylog.com

Q: 12-Jan-2006 (ON HOLD) I am a first time buyer, and I purchased DDL on Jan 1, 2006, why does my copy say I have 366 days?

A: Only users who have purchased Drivers Daily Log prior to Jan 1, 2006 are grandfather in the program. New users purchasing the software on, or after Jan 1, 2006 start their subscription when they enter the ActivationCode into DDL.

Q: Does this mean I must also pay the $40.00 US fee now, on top of the $95.00 US I just paid?

A: No you will not have to pay until 366 days from the time you activated.  i.e. Jan 1, 2006 you purchased and process your ActivationCode. You would  need to renew your subscription before  Jan 1, 2007, To make sure your version continues, please renew at least 48 hours in advance. You will need to enter your CustomerID/DDL#/DDL# and your InstallationID into the comments or notes field when you pay by PayPal or SWREG (SOFTSHOP).

Q: Can you give an example of the three (3) 'NEW' activations.

A: A user activates DDL on Laptop (1st Activation), User decides to run DDL on home computer as a backup, issued 2nd ActivationCode (new InstallationID).  User buys a new laptop during the year. (new InstallationID), 3rd and last new ActivationCode issued. Now if something were to happen the user would have to Pay the full price of $50.00 for the 'Lite' version and $95.00 for the 'Full' version, again to re-activate.

Q: I have used all three (3) of my "NEW" activations, but it has been a couple of years. Do I have to buy a new program?

A: Yes, A user is allowed only three (3)  "NEW" Activations, there is no time limit. Remember DDL is licensed to one computer. We feel drivers replace computers more often, so we have extended the license  to include three (3) "NEW" Activations. 90 % of our drivers are still on there 1st license. For those drivers who replace more often then they will  required to purchase a "NEW" license after the third "NEW" Activation.

Q: What if I have to reformat, or replace components in the laptop that  I have activated, will I have  to purchase a new ActivationCode?

A: NO!   The InstallationID may change, we will be able to determine what has changed and if it is the same computer. There are no limits on the number of re-ActivationCodes that will be issued in this case for the subscription period.    For users that currently have four or more license you will need to contact  Bruce  at 505.317.9292 for pricing information

Q: So you ask what if I give my buddy a copy and activate him under one of my activations. What will happen?

A: Several things will occur:

    A. You have used 2 of your 3 authorized New activations, You would have 1 left. Then you will be required to purchase a New license at the full rate of $50.00 US for the 'Lite' License or $95.00 US for the 'Full' license.

    B. Your buddy would not be allowed any re-activations. As that person would not be listed in our database. Any problems would fall on the user giving away their codes. (this can and will be traced back to the Registered user). Users that use all three (3) Activations in a one year period will have to purchased a new license for the regular price of  $50.00 US for the 'Lite' version and $95.00 US for the 'Full' version,  in order to be re-activated. Abuse can result in not being allow to renew your subscription.

Q.  Why did Drivers Daily Log change to a Subscription Service, and raise the price of the software?

A: What started out as a few hours a day, has gowned to 10 to 12 hours a day. sometime 7 days a week. We have been able to offer Drivers Daily Log at a great price for the value. US$70.00. All updates and print modules which we now have 32, were free. A small annual subscription fee for drivers who wish to use all the functions and print modules seemed to be fair to all.  Users who do not need, nor use all the functions and print modules, will not have to pay an annual fee. (AS ALWAYS ALL BUGS ARE FIXED FOR FREE, NO MATTER WHAT VERSION YOU'RE RUNNING). We realize drivers work hard for every cent they earn and in our option are well under paid for the amount of time they really work. So when others have claimed  we were to low, we didn't increase our prices. (we are the lowest cost for the total package). and intend on staying so.

Writing Code is like driving a truck, Fleet Managers dispatch on the 1 inch equals 10 minutes of driving, and some drivers believe you can write something new/debug it, then test it in an hour.  Both are not true.  (OK if you have a triple digit truck, yes it can be done) Some coded items yes, most have to be planned very carefully, or you create more bugs, and crashes. Because our code is so compact we have to be really careful as it can effect other fields, reports, records in ways we can never dream of.

Everyday drivers write that they show it to everyone and everyone is going to purchase it.  Every driver would like a print module that will work with their company so they only have to print it at the end of the day.  We too would like to see this, but there are not enough hours in the day to do this.  (just last night Nick, wife moved the bed in front of the computers so he would have to waste time getting out of it).  We are working on several major improvements, that will allow you to track maintenance, your personal information, i.e. when your drivers license expires before it does. Medical Card expired date. PM's due, just to mention a few, and as always the HOS changes as they occur. By saving you just one HOS violation, you can pay for a license and several years worth of annual subscription service. As with any software, you the drivers will decide if it  is a good deal or not. We realize some with feel we are to high, and yes we do have a few that feel we are to low. (I swear we do). But weather you feel that it's not worth it, or you sign up for an annual subscription service we want to say Thank-You, as each of you drivers are what drives us daily to make it easier on you in a small way.  (Your time).

Q: What are some of the new improvements planned for DDL?

A: In the coming year, we hope to provide a new Drivers Information Record, this will track your drivers licensing, expiration dates, medical card expiration date. A new Maintenance Record, this will track when maintenance is due, completed. DDL will notify you in advance when something is due. Allowing you to stay on top of your information as well as maintence needed. We plan on beefing up the reports, from 84 to over 100 different reports a driver can generate. Something special for drivers to turn in logs to companies that are using iTruck auditing software. (working on this now). Will be 100% paper free. No not like Werner! Better. As the driver can still print the log daily right from the truck for DOT. And more print modules for companies showing an interest in allowing drivers to submit their logs using DDL software.

Q: When will I have to pay for the annual subscription fee, I just purchased DDL in June of this year?

A: All users who have paid for DDL before Oct 1, 2005 will not have to pay for an annual subscription for 1 year that will be January 2007. There is one exception and that is re-activations. Then your clock will start with the date of your original registration began.  Your period will end and a subscription will have to be purchased 366 days later.

Q: What if I do not have to re-activate the software?

A: Well then you will continued to be able to use the code until we correct this problem. (Yes we are aware of this, however we are not in a hurry to fixed this and it is low on the list) You copy will not expire.

Q: I have three copies now, will I have to buy three (3)  annual subscription?

A: No, a user is allow three different license on the same account. However should you need to replace a computer. Then you would need to purchase either a new 'Lite' license or a 'Full' license to re-activate. Then you will receive the standard three (3) 'New' licenses again.

Q: I was grandfather in and have more than three (3) license, how does this effect me?

A: You will need the old InstallationID number so we can update the correct record. You will be allowed three (3) "NEW" activations per copy. But you must have the old InstallationID. Without it, we will consider this a "NEW" activation and you will need to purchase a new license.

Q: I do not have my old InstallationID #, what happens now?

A: We will check your customer record and try and match up the new InstallationID #  to an old one, If we are unable to do this, then this new InstallationID will be treated as a "NEW" ACTIVATION and count against your three (3) limit. This is why it is so important to save and print your registration information. The burden of proof is on you. For users with more than 1 license see the above question. As you must provide the old InstallationID number, so we can match it with a license.

Q: I have used all three (3) of my 'New' activations. My 3rd computer needs a new hard drive, do I need to repurchase DDL before a 'ActivationCode' will be issued?

A: No, when you complete the "Request for Re-activation Form' on the customer support site. You will need to complete all the information, our system will check and compare the new InstallationID number you enter against all InstallationID we have on record. In this case it will show that all you did was install a new hard drive. There is no limit on the number of re-activations you can receive for upgrading or updating your computer.  You will need the old InstallationID number

Q: I replace my computers every six months, will I have to buy a 'New' license?

A: No, you would of used on two (2) license in a year, so your fine.

Q: I replace my computer every three months, will I have to buy a 'New' license?

A: Yes, as you exceeded three 'New' Activation in one year. You would have to purchase either the 'Lite' or 'Full' version before a 'New' activation will be issued.
