Q-3: I am a new user what should I know before getting started?
A: First, Welcome and we are glad you decided to try Drivers Daily Log
Software.
First Time Users should read this first for
important information.
This page contains links to install/setup
the program
files that are available for download. Click on the appropriate link of a file's
description to begin downloading. During the 30 days trial, you can update
the trial version by re-download and installing the newest version. Check the
Version History to
see what has changed, or been fixed. Come back often (or at least every
couple of months) as we update the downloads as needed. Please
read
Download Notes,
Update Notes,
Install Problems
and Re-Activation
Policy for help.
Drivers Daily Log (DDL) when first installed will have a time
limit of 30 days (Trial), If you are a registered user and have received an
ActivationCode the software takes away the 30 days limited. There is
nothing different from the Trial version and the update. Deleting and
re-download will not extend your 30 days. by updating you are receiving all bug
fixes, , nor will it remove your activation.
It is encouraged that you update often, no matter which you are, a 1st time
user, or a veteran user. Failure to do this could cost you big $$$ in fines if
we have to make a change to the HOS and you fail to update the software.

Q-4: Do you have any notes on Downloading?
A: Yes, here are a few:
Download Notes: The program can be downloaded
from this web site via your web page browser. Left mouse click on blue link of the file name
you wish to download, choose to Save, Open, or Run the program, we recommend the
Open or Run, as you can always re-download from this site. If you choose to Save
the download. Then Save the file to temporary folder (directory) or to a floppy
diskette on your system. This file is a self extracting executable. It does not need any "unzip" program to extract the files.
DDL setup runs automatically after the file extraction completes. The setup
program will create the necessary folders (directories), uncompress the files,
copy the files to the proper folder, create start menu entries, and create an
optional "shortcut" on the "desktop". Check the "Path". The program
places the following path into your system registry,
C:\Program Files\Drivers Daily Log. It does not install any program specific Dynamic Link
Libraries (DLLs) in the system folders. Select the 'default' setup
settings unless it is really necessary to do something different. (This is
for advance computer users as you will have to know how to change directories). The
normal folder (PATH) for the DDL program is
'C:\Program
Files\Drivers Daily Log for both the "Full" and "Lite" version. iTruck
will be
C:\Program Files\DDL iTruck (Paths are case
aware) i.e.
C:\program files\driversdailylog is not the
same as
C:\Program Files\Drivers Daily Log.
Files can not be open from anywhere but this directory.
Example:
C:\Program Files\Drivers Daily Log\IMSAMPLE\Oct2005.LogData
I downloaded the Lite version update, but I
purchased the "Full" version, am I going to loose the extra functions in DDL?
No DDL will look to see what you have purchased (ActivationCode) and activated
the functions you have paid for, no matter what version "Full", or "Lite" you
have downloaded. By use of the ActivationCode we turn on, off functions.
Q-5: Do I have to update?
A: Yes, Updating is free. You should update for many reasons, one is DDL is
used to save you money and running a version that has the wrong rules or old
rules, can and will cost you money, failing to updated can cost you big fines if
your running old rules. We never know when DOT will change how they "see" a
rule, so update at least one a month is wise. Updating will never hurt you.
Do not delete or uninstall DDL when updating, as this will change your
InstallationID number.
If DDL is not updated with a certain time, it will go back to Trial version and
you will need to update to the latest version to be able to use DDL. If your
updating every couple of months you will never see this.
Q-6: Do you have any update notes?
A: Yes, here are a few:
Update Notes: DDL can be updated to
the most recent version at any
time. This applies to both registered and trial versions of the software.
It is suggested that you visit this web site every months or so to 'see what
has happened' with new features and repairs to the software. DDL is
backward compatible with data records from older versions, and the upgrade
process will not harm your existing log files. It is suggested that a
backup of your data files be accomplished as matter of normal procedure,
especially during a update of any new software update. Copy DDL
'Driver(s)' log
files to a diskette, CD-R or CD-RW, DVD-R or DVD-RW, or a flash drive on a regular basis. Recent versions of DDL makes this
backup process very convenient. There is a 'built in' procedure under menu
File/Backup or Restore. You must have some computer knowledge as you will need to set
this up. Do not delete or uninstall DDL when updating, as this will change
your InstallationID number.
Q-7: Do you have any Install notes?
A: Yes, here are a few:
Install Problems? Check properties of downloaded DDL340.EXE,
DDL340FULL.EXE, DDL340LITE.EXE, DDL340TRIAL.EXE
file (right click on file name) and look for size of file in bytes.
Verify this against the Download Size on the download page. If bytes actual do not
match then download did not complete properly. Do the download
again. Wait for a 'quieter' time on the internet, or try another web browser.
Internet Explorer should work. Browsers are known to 'lie' about
successful downloads. If you get 'LZHUF - Write Error' during
install, make sure you close DDL so that it is not running, and repeat install. If you continue to
have trouble installing, please delete the file DDL330.EXE and re-download.
"DDL CAN NOT BE RUNNING WHEN UPDATING. IT WILL FAIL!!!".

Q-8: I have DDL installed on a backup
computer should I update this copy?
A: YES, we are always fixing bugs, or
adding new functions to DDL (Daily) and having two different version can effect
data. Both computers should be running the same version before data is entered.
Software should always match unless you're an advance user testing it.
Q-9: Should I save DDL340.EXE in a new
subdirectory to be installed later?
A: NO! DDL should be installed in
most cases to the default location: C:\Program Files\Drivers Daily Log. Only
advance users should change this as it can cause problems with the activation
and updates. When installing just click ok or next to install in
this default location. We strongly recommend that you only run one copy of DDL.
Place more on a computer will cause problems and could cause loss of data,
unless you fully understand what you're doing. This is for advance users only.
If you like to play with software and test beta's version, before they are
release, we recommend running DDL on a different computer as it can take up to
48 hours to get your reActivationCode and allow you to start using the log
again.

Q-10: When the new 2005 rules taken
effect on Oct 1-2005 what will I need to do to switch over?
A: DDL will use the current rule
between now and end of September. When you switch to a log date of 01 Oct 2005
or later, and DDL detects your running the 11hr/14hr rule, which has not be
replaced by a 'Rules on the Fly' record for the new 11hr/14hr (01 Oct 2005)
rule, you will be prompted with a screen, asking if you want to switch, click on
the 'yes' answer, and DDL will 'do it' for you. You can always add/remove
'Rules On Fly' data records at any time.
Q-11: What if I want to go back to the
present version for a look/see and the new version is implemented? Part 2:
Should I have the old and new versions installed for this?
A: You can continue to go to any log
day and DDL will use the rule that was in effect for that time frame. DDL has
always used 'Rules on the Fly' record. So a driver who changes rules when say
crossing from the US into Canada. The rule becomes effective when a 'Rules on
the Fly' record is created. DDL will do all the math and continue to
display the hours available under the new rule, There is no limit on the number
of times you can change a rule. DDl will make all the adjustment and display the
hours available. Because of the USA 2005 'Rules on Fly' record added on 01Oct
2005, you should be able to 'go back and forth' in time, and DDL
will apply the appropriate rule to your duty status records. Part 2 Answers: There is no old and new versions. DDL is only one version. All bug
fixes, new functions are part of the current version. Downloading and Installing
will update the files needed. We do not have copies of older versions. Sliding
the mouse from left to right on the grid slowly will display the rule that is in
effect for that time frame.
Example of Rule Change:

Q-12: I do not like the changes that you
have made in DDL, Can I go back to an earlier version?
A: It is possible, but any data in
new fields will not be shown, it might cause a crash depending on how far back
you are wishing to go. DDL is not designed to go backwards, nor do we support
this as many issue come up. This should only be done by advance users as
DDL dose not support this, and can not help you should problems come up.
Older version are not available for download as we do not save them. WE STRONGLY
RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT GO THIS ROUTE.
Q-13: Will I loose my current log data
when I update to the new version?
A: NO, however as in any software,
BACKUP your Drivers Folder onto removable media before updating. Just to be
safe. We have found that when a driver claims to have lost there log files when
the updated to the newest version release, that one or more things have likely
occurred
1. The program was not installed in the default directory.
So the logs are still in that directory, You will need to do a search for log
files, then move the entire drivers folder into the correct path. See above on
this location. You will need some windows knowledge to copy and paste folders,
we recommend "Windows XP for Dummies" as a great source on XP. We do not offer
support on how to work in Windows, which is why we strongly recommend installing
in the default location which we do support.
2. User is trying to open a copy of the log in the wrong
path, you can backup the file any where you like, but you must restore it to the
correct path before DDL will open the data.
3. Log data files some how got corrupted, (this is
very rare) All is not lost, DDL makes a backup copy. You will need to contact us
on how to restore this log for use. If you have mess with this backup file, with
out fully understanding what you are doing, you can damage it and you will have
to start over. So please contact us for help first.
4. If DDL is not install to the same location, then it
will appear that you have lost your data, you will need to move the driving
folder to the new path for DDL. By default DDL is installed to C:\Program
Files\Drivers Daily Log, Only you can change this path when you run the install
program. If you change it them you must change it each time as the install will
always default to C:\Program Files\Driver Daily Log. It is recommend you not
mess with this path unless you fully understand what will happen. (i.e. program
will unregistered and go back to trial, you will need a new code.

Q-14: Do I have to pay to update my copy
of DDL?
A: That will depend on the version you have. For users using the 'Lite'
version Bug fixes and Hours of Service updates are always free. No
subscription is required for the Lite version. (The limit of three (3) "NEW"
activations does apply to the "Lite" version, at which time a user will have to
repurchase the "Lite" version).
For users of the 'Full' version during your subscription period all updates are
free. If your subscriptions has expired (The software will go back to the 'Lite'
version) then yes you must pay the annual subscription fee to use the
'Full' version.

Q-15: I keep getting an error message
(NSIS or Corrupt) when I try and update to the latest version.
A: Check to make sure DDL is not
'open or running' in the background. DDL can not update the files if it is open
or currently running. Close DDL and then continue the install.
A 'NSIS' error or 'Corrupt', This type of error occurs when you do not
get a good download, or the download is corrupted or incomplete.
This error is caused by a incomplete or bad (corrupted) download. Internet
Explorer 7.0 seems to cause the most problems. Follow the
Instructions below to fix this problem. Always make sure you have a full signal
and not moving when downloading to avoid this. To fix this problem
follow the steps below:
1. Use the Search function in Windows
to find these files and delete them from your system. DDL340.EXE,
DDL340FULL.EXE, DDL340LITE.EXE, DDL340TRIAL.EXE you might not have all these but
delete any and all that is found on the entire hard disk.
2. Open your browser and clear out the History and Cache files. Use help if
needed to located these files. If not you will not be able to download DDL as it
will stay bad.
If using Internet Explorer 7, then
you can click on TOOLS then click on
Delete Browsing History
3. Defrag your Hard Drive by Clicking on My Computer, Right Click on C:\drive,
Left Click on Properties, Left Click on Tools, Select Defragment Now. (This will
take a while depending on when it was last done.)
4. Shut down your Computer for 1 minute, then restart the computer. This must
done.
5. Open Drivers Daily Log web site and Click on Download page, Select the
download you need, we recommend picking 'Open' or 'Run' not save and follow the
instructions.
May sure you have a great internet connection, or the bad NSIS will occur again.
We recommend that you are stopped and in a big city, with a GREAT internet
connection.
Download managers are a popular way to solve some of the
internet download 'things'
that can drive you crazy:
Here is a free one you can download.

Install and then launch internet explorer to DDL
download page:
http://www.driversdailylog.com/ddldownload.htm
Then left click and 'hold' on 'Click here to Download
the update for the 'Full' or 'Lite' version' button and drag to 'download
manager'.
This can be used for any download you need on any site.
Initiate the download in the download manager.
More information on NSIS error:
Why do I get NSIS Error
From NSIS Wiki (Website)
A NSIS Error message box means the installer you're
trying to run is corrupted. It means the installer data was
somehow modified and is no longer valid. The error states:
Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include
incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the
installer's author to obtain a new copy.
More information at:
http://nsis.sf.net/NSIS_Error
In versions prior to 2.35, the error states:
The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.
You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.
It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch
(NOT RECOMMENDED).
Solutions
Follow these steps for each case to get rid of the error.
Error with Single Installer
- Clear your browser's cache.
- Disable any download accelerators and download the
installer again.
- Update any active anti-virus and download the
installer again.
- Disable any active anti-virus and download the
installer again.
- Download the installer from another source. It might
be corrupted on the server, or the connection to the
server is unreliable.
- Download the installer using another computer and
copy it to the original computer using a reliable
medium.
- Rename the installer so it is a simple one-word name
with no special characters (without removing the .exe
suffix)
As a last resort, the installer can be executed even
though it's corrupted. To bypass the corruption test, pass
/NCRC on the command line. To do so, go to
Start->Run, type cmd and hit Enter. A
black console window should open. Drag the installer into
the window, hit Space and type /NCRC. Hit
Enter again and the installer should start. This is
not recommended!
Error with Multiple Installers
- Clear your browser's cache.
- Disable any download accelerators and download the
installer again.
- Disable any firewalls and download the installer
again.
- If it is installed,
uninstall the nVidia firewall and download the
installer again.
- Scan for, and remove
malware
- Scan for, and remove
viruses
- Scan the hard drive using
scandisk,
chkdsk, or any other hard drive repair tool
- Download the installer using another network
connection and copy it to the original computer using a
reliable medium.
Random or Start-up Errors
- Scan for, and remove
malware
Error When Closing Internet Explorer
- Try updating
McAfee manually. Failed updates of McAfee have been
known to produce this problem.
- Scan for, and remove
malware

Q25: I purchased my copy of Drivers Daily Log software from a driver at a
truck stop, After just downloading and Installing the latest version, the
software is coming up to XX days remaining on the trial version. I have
reentered the ActivationCode and it still says "Registration Failed, This
software is not Registered". How do I re-activate my software?
A: Only the register user on file in our database can receive a reActivationCode, If the ActivationCode you listed is a hacked code, or does not match the
InstallationID showing on the computer, you will need to complete
(all information) a request for a "NEW" or "Reactivation Form on the customer
support web site.
http://www.ddlsoftware.com or email us your CustomerID/DDL#/DDL# that was
issued, and or your order confirmation # issued when you purchased DDL. If you
do not have either then you will need to purchased DDL from the web site, before
we will issue a "Full" license. Each computer has it's own InstallationID code
which we track and verify to whom the software is registered to. If you
purchased the hacked software on the road, then you were taken for your money,
as we do not sell, nor do we have any driver (other than Bruce Luebke)
authorized to sell DDL at truck stops. You will always get a receipt and a email
from us (Drivers Daily Log) confirming your InstallationID and ActivationCode
along with a CustomerID/DDL#/DDL# number. If we determine your code has been release to
unauthorized personnel (not listed in your record in our database, we will
revoke your license agreement, and you will need to pay the full price to
reactivate. Safeguard your codes.
Q-26: I am having problems trying to Download and Install Drivers Daily Log is
there any thing else you recommend?
A: SUBJECT Download Problems
Download(s) - All DDL Software install programs - problems check list.
Number 2. is most likely.
1. Windows logged in 'User Privileges'. DDL will not install if you use
'Limited User' ('Standard User' in Vista OS). You must log in as
'Administrator' or 'Power User'.
2. Internet browser is 'grabbing' partial download from 'local' cache of
downloads. So we suggest clearing the internet browser cache. For
Microsoft Internet Explorer - menu Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet
files 'Delete Files' or similar. Also See Q-15 above.
3. Microsoft Internet Explorer does have problems if you have not
're-booted' (power off/on restart of computer) in a few days. 're-boot' is
power down and power up of your computer.
4. Wait for a 'quieter' time of day to download, when internet is not as
'busy'. Try to be sitting, moving down the road can and will cause a loss of the
internet.
5. If you 'save' the DDL340.EXE to a local folder (suggested) as part of
download, you might try to 'delete' any previous 'corrupted' copy. We
suggest download to the system 'desktop' so the icon for DDL340.EXE appears
on the screen. After you launch DDL340.EXE to install DDL, and that is
successful, you can delete the 'icon' (right click and Delete) to remove the
DDL340.EXE program, or copy it to some other folder on your computer.
6. You can also download and install a 'download manager'. Here is one we
use and it is free:
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm. It will
'resume' a previous download if intermittent internet connections is the
problem, and you can force a 'restart' of a previous incomplete download -
which the cause of most DDL download problems.
Q-27: I am trying to Install Drivers Daily Log (DDL),
During the install a window pops up saying "DDL Install Program is expired.
Download and Install program from
www.driversdailylog.com What do I do?

A: DDL install programs will expire on the 15th and the
last day of month. We do this to encourage download and install of latest
version of DDL, so duty status rules are 'fresh' with any possible changes.
Visit our we site to download and install the latest version of Drivers Daily
Log (DDL).
http://www.driversdailylog.com/ddldownload.htm
Q-28: I keep receive a pop up window, Warning me that DDL needs to be updated.
What should I do?
A: DDL unlike other programs you may be using on your
computer can cause you to be fined or placed out of service if you are running
an old version that has bugs or incorrect Hours of Service rules. We
correct and update the software (version number will change any time we fix a
bug in the Hours of Service rules). We update the program daily, weekly,
month by fixing any bugs. or adding new services, new print modules, updated
print modules. or adding new reports, updating reports. Adding new ways to make
DDL simple to use.
We have found that to many drivers are not updating and
are running old versions that have many of the problems noted above. We have
decided that all users will have to update to the latest version every few
months in order for DDL to continue to work. We will start warning you at 30 days that you need to update. If you fail to update during this 30 days, we will
stop accepting data and you will need to complete a paper log book, until you
have updated the program. You also could loose you activation status and have to
reapply for a new ActivationCode, as your InstallationID could change. We
realize that this may cause a hardship, but having a program that is out of
date, or has has bugs, will cause a bigger hardship if you are fined big $$$$$
and placed out of service. Since most DOT know to check the version number to
see if it is the latest version, you as a user also need to check this. Download
and installing the latest version only takes a few minutes.
If you have questions or problems on downloading,
installing, or activation problems, please read the FAQ section that covers that
area.
Q-29: I want to install DDL on a different computer, Can you explain how to do
this?
In order to do this you need to understand how to locate
folders, copy and paste. inside of windows, Windows has help on these by opening
help and typing in what you need i.e. Copy, also there are many good books about
how to do .. that you can purchase. DO NOT DELETE, REFORMAT until you're sure
you have and can read the data on the other computer. Many computer shops will
move data for a small price. Print this and give to your computer guy.
A: Step #1 - On the computer you have DDL installed on
now, do the following:
1. Download and Install the latest version of DDL from
our web site.
2. Download and Install the latest Print Modules you
have installed.
3. Copy your drivers folder (NOT THE DRIVERS DAILY LOG
FOLDER), to an external device. (flash driver, hard drive, CD/DVD). On most
computers this will be in C:/Program Files/Drivers Daily Log/ Your name.
4. Copy any Co-drivers drivers folder.
Step # 2 - On the new computer, do the following:
1. Download and Install the latest version of DDL from
our web site.
2. Download and Install the latest Print Modules you
have installed.
(Both computers need to be running the latest version of
Drivers Daily Log software, other wise problems, lost data, can occur). We
update DDL at least twice a month, so there is always a new version on the web
site.
3. Open your external device that you copied your
drivers folder to, and copy it to the Drivers Daily Log main folder.
4. Copy any Co-drivers folder to this same location.
If you are using the backup inside of DDL, or Frank's
DDL Backup program then update the backup and then restore using the program.
(more help is available in the help system.)
Once you have Drivers Daily Log installed and your data
in place, then you will need to "Request a Activation Code" using the "Request
for Activation Code Form" located on the WEB SITE. You will need the new
InstallationID from the new computer.
If you are going
to be using both computers, then please make sure you update both computer at
least every few months, to avoid problems.

you will need your InstallationID number. If this is a new activation (just
purchased), you will not have a DDLID number, you will need to fill in the
number from your receipt. If this is a new or reactivation, then you will need
to provide your DDLID number or your receipt number from when you purchased DDL.
Your DDLID number can be found on the email you received from us, next to your
name. It is very important to PRINT AND SAVE this email, in order to avoid
having to repurchase the software. |
